Meet Sumer, the Phoenix Suns Dance Team Coach
By Karla Aguilar
Being
a Phoenix Suns Manager is a full time position for Sumer. From setting
schedules for game days and events to managing practices, Sumer has her hands
full all year long - during basketball season and off-season as well.
As
a former Phoenix Suns Dancer, Sumer is able to relate to her girls and
understand what they have to go through as she manages the team.
“I know what they are going through. I know what’s really difficult and when they are dancing a lot, when they are exhausted and they need a break, I know that. I haven’t been far away removed where I don’t know what they are going through, so I can relate,” she said.

During
game days it takes all of Sumer's organizational skills to be able to get through
the day.
“It’s all just different scheduling and keeping everyone organized,” she said.
She has to set appearances, routines and duties for all her dancers. Before games, the Suns Dancers can be seen all over the arena fulfilling their different duties, from dancing in the entrance to greeting fans, high-high fiving kids and more.

During
off-season, Sumer helps out with the Mercury Hip Hop Squad, another dance team that occasionally performs at Suns games. She also assists in
game operations and prepares for the upcoming season by
scheduling and managing prep classes and auditions.
